For fans of John Connolly and Dennis Lehane, the prequel to the bestselling, now-complete Erin Solomon Mystery Series. And don't miss the other novels in this critically acclaimed series, available in a single volume for a limited time at 50% off.

Life, death, and the heart of darkness that lies between...

When a Sudanese refugee is killed in a bizarre ritual murder in Portland, Maine, reporter Daniel "Diggs" Diggins attempts to revive his flagging career by investigating the crime. The story becomes personal when a young African girl Diggs has befriended is targeted by the killer, and Diggs himself falls victim to a curse that brings to terrifying light the ghosts of his own past. Working with young protege Erin Solomon, soon the duo finds themselves immersed in a world of dark secrets, crooked politicians, and black magic.

Set during the summer of 2000, this standalone prequel to the bestselling Erin Solomon Pentalogy gives existing fans a front-row seat to those first tenuous days between Diggs and Solomon, as friendship evolves into something infinitely more complicated. And for newcomers to the series, Midnight Lullaby is the perfect introduction to the darkness and serpentine twists that mark every Diggs and Solomon mystery.

Midnight Lullaby Prequel to the Erin Solomon Mysteries eBook Jen Blood

I am a huge fan of Jen Blood's writing style and her Diggs and Solomon characters in general. Just like the Erin Solomon Pentalogy; this book did not disappoint at all. Although technically written after the Pentalogy, this is a prequel to the series. As an avid reader, and having already read the Pentalogy, I was really looking forward to visiting Diggs and Solomon in the early years and to get a better feel for the development of their relationship. And to be completely honest, I don't think I'll ever get too much Diggs and Solomon, no matter what time in their lives is being portrayed in the pages of Jen's books. That being said, this could easily be a stand alone book or read before or following the Pentalogy.

It starts with action from the beginning and never gives you time to question why you are reading it. The story grabs your attention from the start with a crime scene that the main characters stumble upon. Leading from there, as investigative reporters, it is their mission to "solve" the crime, but they get drawn into other aspects of the story that they weren't expecting.

This story has just enough twists and turns to keep you guessing without being confusing. I typically am able to figure out who the bad guy is way before an author reveals it, but I was shocked when this bad guy was uncovered. I truly did not see that one coming! Lots of mystery with just enough romance. I love the dynamic between Diggs and Solomon.

Bravo Ms. Blood!! Another winner in my opinion!!

Midnight Lullaby Prequel to the Erin Solomon Mysteries eBook Jen Blood Reviews

I was so excited to read more Jen Blood after that wonderful Canine Debut. What a horrible book! Living with a teenager, not just smoking tobacco, but pot as well. No more Erin Solomon for me. Let's get back on the canine series.
Jen Blood's characters are the best part of her stories and her gift is using each person's own voice to tell them. This time, it's Daniel "Diggs" Diggins narrating, and if I hadn't already read the Erin Solomon series, Midnight Lullaby would have definitely sent me looking for them. Many times, prequels rely on the reader being familiar with the stories they precede, but "Lullaby" stands on its own, with a great story fleshed out with as colorful a cast of miscreants as you'd never want to know.
Midnight Lullaby is a prequel to the Solomon series, of which I'm a great fan. Told from Diggs point of view, Solomon and Diggs stumble upon a ritualistic murder of an African refugee. As they delve into investigating, their own past demons arise. Unlike a lot of mysteries I read, the ending was a surprise. Well written, great character development.
Jen Blood does it again! This book was thought provoking, chilling, thrilling, and I can't get enough of the Solomon & Diggs duo. It was great to see them in action earlier in their careers when their on again off again romance sparked. The characters were well developed and the plot never lags! I can't wait for more books by this author! Check out her other Erin Solomon Mysteries if you haven't done so already!
Any Diggs and Solomon book is going to be high on my list and this is no exception. It was especially enjoyable to learn of the earlier interactions between these two. I've always pulled for these two to be together but they have always had a complicated relationship, to say the least. You learn more about that in this book.

I won't get into the plot since others have done so. I'll only say that if you've read or are familiar with the other books in the series then WHAT are you waiting for?! Get this one and prepare to lose even more sleep!
There are a few series out there that you just can’t put down, you read one and you’re hooked. That’s how the Diggs/Solomon series is for me. I’ve read them all, and in all honestly I was a bit depressed when the last one came out, but then Jen Blood surprised us all and wrote the prequel!

Midnight Lullaby focuses on the early years and development of Diggs and Solomon’s relationship, but it’s filled with a disturbing mystery that takes flight from the very beginning of the book and doesn’t let go until the end. As usual Ms. Blood’s writing, characters, scenes, etc. are exceptional. This certainly functions as a stand-alone novel, but I guarantee you, you will buy the rest without hesitation (if you haven’t already).
Honestly, Jen Blood could creatively write my grocery list and I'd still give it 5 stars and rave about it; she's just one of those authors who you just KNOW their book is going to be amazing based on previous works. Midnight Lullaby is no exception. It was such a fun experience to visit Diggs and Erin in the early stages of their partnership (and not-so-platonic partnership) and still witness the same type of chemistry portrayed in the Erin Solomon Pentology.

Right from the start - after Diggs and Erin stumble across the body of a female who was obviously staged and posed - the action and story sucks you in and engulfs all your senses while reading. Hints of things to come in the next 5, already released, books make me want to begin a re-read to pick up on those subtle plot lines.

In short, Diggs and Erin will always been among my Top 5 Favorite Couples and Midnight Lullaby reminded me how amazing these characters are, and Blood's ability to weave an amazing tale with them. I can't wait to see what this author has in store for the future.
